Info for EOs

Info for EOs and Members regarding the New Construction Listing Service

For the past year and a half CHBA has been exploring the opportunity of creating a “multi-listing service” for new developments and new home construction for our members. This was first discussed at the CHBA Board of Directors meeting in October 2018 (where potentially partnering with Regina Region HBA and their system was discussed) and then again in October 2019 (where options regarding partnering with a third-party was discussed).

CHBA has looked into multiple companies. An original company was recommended to the board, but further discussions, feedback, and emerging new company options have led to CHBA now moving to broader RFP. This will come out shortly.  Timing for launch will be dependent on the RFP process and post-selection, the timing for the selected provider to be able to go live with CHBA.

Background info is as follows:

  • The intent is to engage with a member company to add this type of system to CHBA’s National Advantages program (in other words, it is voluntary for members and they will get a discount if they wish to list the new homes and/or developments with this service).
  • The listing service, hosted by the third party, will be for both members and non-members. Members will get significant discounts, be marked as members on the third party’s site, and be featured at the top of lists of members.
  • CHBA also plans to embed this system in its own website, where only member companies and their properties would be listed.
  • Local and provincial associations looking to do the same will be able to embed the system (listing service map/functions) featuring their members directly in their website as well if they wish.
  • There is a revenue sharing opportunity with CHBA and the third party to provide some revenues to local HBAs (or provincials acting as locals), to incent promotion of the system, as the more members list, the better the offering will be to consumers and to the Association.
  • There is no requirement by HBAs to participate.
  • The intent would be to keep any workload for constituent HBAs to a bare minimum level, basically on voluntary promotion of the system to increase participation and in so doing increase revenue for the constituent HBA.
  • It is felt that this has the potential to be an excellent value add for members and all levels of the Association.
  • All HBAs will be kept in the loop as this process continues to proceed.
