Task Group on Lateral Loads, May 8th 2026
Task Group on Lateral Loads, May 8th 2026
The task group reviewed the impact analysis based on a 1,400 ft², two-storey detached home, using RSMeans as the primary costing reference for PCF 2216 (Structural Design (Part 9) – Lateral Loads). The group discussed what elements should be included in the analysis, including whether engineering fees should be accounted for. It was noted that not all measures require engineering input, for example, solid blocking can typically be implemented without an engineer, while other elements, such as blocking panels, would require engineering design. There was also a suggestion to present cost estimates as a range rather than a single value; however, concerns were raised that deviating from RSMeans figures could make the results more difficult to justify, since it is the standard for cost estimation.
