The purpose of the third Task Group meeting was to review the new impact analysis guidelines to be applied to proposed changes and begin review of code change requests related to washrooms, exterior entrances, and interior doors and circulation spaces.

Following a review of the impact analysis guidelines that contain 23 guiding principles, staff reminded the Task Group that phase 1 of the work will focus on code requirements that will apply to 100% of dwelling units and it will be important to rule out code change request that focus on elements that are easy to replace if needed.  Codes staff also noted that if something costs the same during a renovation as it would during initial construction there is no need to focus on it.  The codes staff presentation with a quick overview on the types of code change requests was followed by a video demonstration by an individual who uses a wheelchair on a daily basis.  The presenter showed the Task Group how she transfers to & from the toilet and shower, and also how she moves between all the spaces in a home she shares with her family.

The chair proposed 6 (min.) versions of 5 ft X 8 ft bathrooms layouts for compliance to be created by the Task Group and the group will get into more detail in reviewing code change requests in future meetings.
