PCF (Proposed Change Form) 2030 - Reinforcing Stud Walls in Washrooms for the Future Installation of Grab Bars: Structural Strength

Staff presented changes made to PCF 2030 in response to public review comments, including those submitted by CHBA, CHBA BC and BILD Alberta.  The most significant changes were a reduction in the minimum thickness of sheathing for grab bar backing from 25.4 mm to 18 mm when applied over the studs and a new "inset option" between studs, which were supported by the Canadian Wood Council following on-site testing performed by an Ontario builder.  The Committee voted unanimously to recommend PCF 2030 for inclusion in the 2025 National Building Code.

Adaptable and Visitable Dwelling Units - Proposed Changes

The balance of the other proposed changes (1882, 2031, 1884, 1958) have been updated by the Standing Committee on Use and Egress and have been posted on Teamwork for feedback by the Standing Committee on Housing and Small Buildings by November 21st.

PCF 2061 - Overheating

The Committee reviewed cross-committee coordination comments provided by members of the Standing Committee on Use and Egress and HVAC and Plumbing.  It was noted that all of the issues had previously been discussed by the Task Group on Overheating or the Standing Committee.  The Standing Committee on Energy Efficiency and NRC staff did not see any adverse impact on Section 9.36. of the NBC.

In addition the shift from a single room or space to the whole house, a working group presented several other changes that had been made to PCF 2061 but the Committee could not reach consensus in the time available.  A follow-up meeting is being planned for November 19th or the 21st.
