Standing Committee on Energy Efficiency – 2020-29

Building Code Meeting Briefs

December 3, 2024

This is the last Standing Committee on Energy Efficiency (SC-EE) meeting before the current code development committees are dissolved and replaced by the new National Model Code Committees (NMCC).

Codes Canada staff has prepared an end-of-cycle report for consideration by SC-EE, highlighting its progress and recommendations for future work such as airtightness, operational greenhouse gas emissions, thermal bridging, energy use metrics, NECB prescriptive path, NBC prescriptive trade-off path, energy performance modelling and user’s guides. As part of their mandate, the Standing Committees are to report on their outstanding work and recommendations to the Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC). CHBA recommended some modifications to the report however it was noted by Codes Canada staff that this is a high-level snapshot and that it was not necessary to include more details. Members reviewed and passed a vote on its final report to be forwarded to the NMCC on Climate Change Mitigation through the CBHCC.

Lastly, the Standing Committee Reviewed and discussed a summary of 16 Code Change Requests (CCRs), reviewed by Codes Canada staff as minor tasks, including recommendations for consideration by SC-EE.
