Standing Committee for Divisions A and C (all codes) - 2020-L Meeting
Standing Committee for Divisions A and C (all codes) - 2020-L Meeting
November 28, 2024
Gender neutral language in the National Model Codes (Proposed Change Forms (PCF) 1942, 1944, 1945)
The three changes replace gendered terms (such as "he"/"his" with non-gendered terms "the patient" and "their". There were only three gendered terms across all four codes and all in Appendix Notes. The Standing Committee (SC) for Divisions A and C agreed that the three changes will be processed as editorial changes, which means they will not go for public review.
National Plumbing Code (NPC) Defined Terms for 'plumbing fixture' (PCF 1959) recommended for publication
The SC reviewed comments from all SCs from the post-public review cross-committee coordination and agreed to recommend the PCF for publication 'as revised' (deleting "neutralized condensate" because it is included in what is typically understood by "clear-water waste").
NPC Defined Terms for "private use", "public use" and " washroom" (PCF 1706) recommended for publication
When asked why many of the cross-committee coordination statements came only from the chairs of standing committees rather than the committees (including the Standing Committee on Housing and Small Buildings (SC-HSB)) the chair clarified that sometimes - for expediency - the SC Chairs are asked to review cross-committee coordination if the subject matter is totally irrelevant to the reviewing committee (for example in this case, the earthquake committee). In terms of the Chair of the SC-HSB issuing the cross-committee statements it was clarified that the significant HSB comments were on PCF 1715 and not PCF 1706.
The committee to recommend the PCF 1706 for publication.
