LEEP Resilience Workshop - Module 3 Steering committee
LEEP Resilience Workshop - Module 3 Steering committee
April 11, 2024
The meeting focused on detailed strategies for land use planning to mitigate climate risks like wildfires or floods, emphasizing nature-based solutions and biodiversity protection that builders could incorporate in their projects. The goal of the meeting was to incorporate these strategies into an Excel-based tool for designers to use.
Builders in the workshop highlighted challenges in aligning customer demands with eco-friendly features in homes and suggested incentives through differentiated insurance rates or labeling programs. However it was emphasized that homeowner preference would eventually be trumped by the costs for homeowners to implement resilient features.
Discussions revolved around potential economic impacts that climate-induced animal migration patterns may have on builders and insurer recognition levels. The importance of showcasing risk reductions for insurance premium discounts was emphasized
The LEEP resilience tool aims to use standardized climate hazard archetypes, such as ‘near oceans’, ‘near forests’ ‘on flat', dry land’ – ‘in urban areas’.
