Joint Task Group (JTG) Overheating

Building Code Meeting Briefs

Aug 28, 2024

The Task Group (TG) on Overheating continued its discussion of Possible Committee Actions.

Staff was very responsive to members' comments. For example, when one response to a comment from an individual CHBA member, who argued that the proposal was contributing to the affordability crisis, was originally drafted to say the issue was addressed and no action was necessary, Members (including CHBA) argued that the code did not address affordability, and that the commenter had a point. This was added to the Possible Committee Action (PCA), although still no action was possible for the TG . Nonetheless acknowledging these points in how the comments are analyzed recognizes the importance of CHBA members commenting.

A few comments and suggested revisions were ruled out of scope, such as making the space accessible and promoting low-greenhouse gas-emission equipment.

The TG learned that the Proposed Change Form (PCF) 2061 may go out again for the fall public review, because the revisions to the reference for CSA F280 are deemed to likely cause further adverse reactions. However, the TG has not concluded its discussion on how to revise the reference around CSA F280 and has therefore, scheduled two other meetings before September 26, 2024, when the PCF must be submitted.
