CHBA-Central Okanagan Members Build Gingerbread Homes in Support of Habitat for Humanity

Giving Back

After a hectic year where many have spent a lot of time at home, “there’s no place like home” has never rung truer. This Holiday season, members of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA-Central Okanagan) are getting involved in the “There’s No Place Like Home” virtual Gingerbread House Photo Contest, hosted by Habitat for Humanity Okanagan.

Through volunteer labour and donations, Habitat for Humanity Okanagan rehabilitates simple, decent homes to help empower families in need to invest in homeownership and strengthen their communities.

Supporting Housing Affordability

To show their support for housing affordability in their community, CHBA-Central Okanagan is the title sponsor of the initiative.

“We’ve worked closely with Habitat for Humanity over the last year to help promote their mission, but this the first campaign we’ve directly worked on together,” said Daniel Winer, Executive Office of CHBA-Central Okanagan. “This year has been challenging and we wanted to give the community a much–needed feel-good activity over the Holidays that supports a cause that is incredibly important in our region – access to housing that is affordable.”

Members have also sponsored on their own, contributed prizes for Habitat for Humanity’s early bird draws, and participated in friendly competition amongst locals to build innovative gingerbread homes. Check out some of their gingerbread homes below:

This year, the Habitat for Humanity has already exceeded their $10,000 goal, with 5 days left to contribute to a great cause.

People’s Choice voting is $5 per vote in support of Habitat for Humanity and voters will be entered into a draw for a $100 Restore Gift Certificate. To cast a vote for your favorite gingerbread house, view the submissions here. Voting closes December 21, 2020.
