2026 EOC PDF Save the Date!

JUNE 9-11 | Whitehorse, YK
The 2026 EOC Professional Development Forum will be held in Whitehorse, YK. Expect to learn, network and have fun with your fellow EOs. We’ll be bringing back the format that EOs have expressed is the most beneficial: EOs sharing what their HBAs are working on to exchange best practices and lessons learned with the group. We’ll have panel and roundtable discussions to further engagement and learning within the EOC. If you need help convincing your Board of the value of attending the PDF, we can support you with a letter from the President of our Board of Directors. We will also have a bursary application for those who show genuine financial need to attend.

National Committee/Council Meetings in Ottawa

October Fall Meetings EOC Roundtable Recap

During the Fall National Committee/Council meetings in Ottawa, Executive Officers engaged in a robust discussion on a variety of topics, one of which was membership retention and recruitment strategies. Several EOs emphasized the importance of prioritizing retention through personalized outreach, onboarding, and leveraging existing members as advocates, and others noted the inefficiency of pursuing disengaged prospects. EOs and CHBA staff discussed ways to further disseminate information about CHBA National projects, resources, and tools, since timely updates and searchable repositories with the EOC resource folder are particularly useful. The group also discussed the diversity of membership categories and fee structures across local and provincial HBAs, saying that transparency and consistency are helpful – CHBA will recirculate the data it previously collected from HBAs willing to share their fee structures. The potential of GrowthZone’s community module was highlighted as a tool for collaboration and resource sharing. Overall, the meeting reinforced the value of strategic planning, peer learning, and communication between HBAs at all levels and among EOs.

October & November EOC Monthly Call Recaps

For the monthly EOC call in October, EOs and all HBA staff were invited to take part in a call to discuss their experience with GrowthZone. There was lively discussion about things that worked well and things that need workarounds or alternatives, with HBAs sharing their solutions. EOs and staff were able to learn some best practices from each other. Those on the call said it would be beneficial to have more GrowthZone calls on defined topics.

During the October Fall Meetings EOC Roundtable, EOs expressed interest in having a comprehensive walk through of the CHBA website resources, which was done for the November EOC call. The walk-through included an overview of the website navigation, key resource areas for EOs, and member materials. EOs are encouraged to flag let CHBA staff know if there are resources they would like to see added. The call was recorded and can be a great resource if you have new staff to onboard. Got an idea for a topic for a future EOC call? Send it via email to eoc@chba.ca.

It’s RenoMark Renewal Time

The annual renewal process is a crucial step in maintaining the credibility of the RenoMark program with homeowners. This is also an opportunity for members to enhance their listing on the recently updated RenoMark website by taking advantage of new features like project types, client testimonials, project photos, and more. This process should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Please remind your members to complete their RenoMark renewal by December 31, 2025 to maintain their RenoMark membership. Share this link to renew today: https://go.chba.ca/renomark-renew

Help Your Members Prepare for Higher Energy Tiers: Training Rebates Available

Being able to offer training rebates is a great value-add for your membership retention and recruitment efforts. If your members are considering up-skilling their team, there’s no better time than now, as $400 rebates or discounts are available for these courses: Net Zero Market Advantage, Advanced Building Science, Net Zero Builder, Net Zero Renovator, and Net Zero for Building Officials. Instructor-led courses are delivered by CHBA Qualified Net Zero Service Organizations, and new e-learning options are available on-demand through CHBA. These courses build competency and capacity to prepare for future building codes. The funding has been provided by NRCan through CHBA’s “Enabling Tiered Codes – Implementation and Market Preparedness” project. Learn more about the incentives, and register here. If you could benefit from additional resources to help you share this information with your members, please let us know.

Coming Soon: Association Leadership Awards

In December, CHBA will be opening the Association Leadership Awards, the biggest accolades given out at the national level of the Association. These awards recognize the outstanding work of dedicated volunteer members – as well as the leadership shown by our local and provincial HBAs and their EOs. They give HBAs another tool to promote their association and aid in membership recruitment and retention. To be considered for an award, HBAs fill in a submission form, which will be due in February (forms and details to come shortly). In 2026, we’ll have the same categories as last year:

  • Member of the Year (selected by CHBA)
  • Rooftopper Membership Recruitment Champion (goes to a member, nominated by an HBA)
  • Community Service Award (goes to an HBA + its members)
  • Small HBA of the Year (fewer than 200 members)
  • Large HBA of the Year (more than 200 members)
  • Executive Officer of the Year – Small HBA (fewer than 200 members)
  • Executive Officer of the Year – Large HBA (more than 200 members)
