Inaugural Renovation Market Index (RMI) Results
CHBA has launched a new Renovation Market Index (RMI) to strengthen advocacy for renovator and trade contractor members by providing timely, credible data on the renovation sector. Modeled on CHBA’s Housing Market Index (HMI), the RMI is a sentiment indicator that tracks current renovation activity, expectations for the next six months, and the level of client inquiries and project pipelines. More than 200 members participated in the inaugural survey, which produced a national score of 48.3—considered neutral—reflecting generally steady current conditions but more pessimistic expectations ahead. Regional results showed stronger sentiment in the Prairies and Atlantic Canada, with weaker scores in Ontario and British Columbia, mirroring HMI results and ongoing affordability challenges. CHBA will use RMI data to inform policymakers, industry stakeholders, and media, reinforcing the need for measures such as renovation tax credits, GST relief for key retrofit projects, and hiring professional RenoMark contractors. Click HERE for the full results or to sign up for the next RMI panel.
