The Canadian Renovators’ Council Welcomes Local HBA Representatives and a New Chair
The Canadian Renovators’ Council (CRC) met on Tuesday, May 13th in Victoria, BC as part of Home Building Week in Canada. This was the first meeting of the expanded CRC with representation from seven local HBAs in addition to the provincial representatives and reciprocal representatives from the Executive Committee. The Council recognized and thanked Curtis Mercer for serving as CRC Chair since 2018. Curtis will continue to be a strong advocate for renovators as CHBA President (starting in September 2025). Henri Belisle, provincial HBA representative from British Columbia, was welcomed as the incoming CRC Chair. A full list of CRC members can be found here on the CHBA website.

2025 CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence - Renovation Winners
The winners of the 2025 CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence were announced on May 15th in Victoria, BC during the final event of CHBA’s Home Building Week in Canada. This year’s competition received a record-breaking number of entries, including 212 in the 12 Renovation categories. In addition to the winners listed below, Vicky’s Homes was awarded the Renovation Excellence Award for best overall performance in the home renovation categories. They were finalists in 5 renovation categories and came away with 4 individual renovations awards in addition to the best-overall accolade, and even picked up a marketing award. New Resource: “Tech Essentials” Now Available in the Knowledge Centre
The CHBA Technical Staff is excited to announce the arrival of a new technical resource for members, now available in the CHBA Member Knowledge Centre. These new “Tech Essentials” include a concise description of a technical topic, along with key facts and tips. Some of the first subjects in this series relevant to renovators are hail resistance of roofs and protecting homes from flooding. The Member Knowledge Centre continues to provide CHBA members with access to building code meeting briefs, CHBA policy positions, and backgrounders.
