Resilient Homes Call for Applications: Deadline Extended to Dec 9!

The Resilient Homes Task Force is now seeking applications to conduct field trials with new home builders that meet the eligibility criteria. The field trials will be used to evaluate the implementation of selected climate resilience measures in terms of cost effectiveness, constructability, and other barriers for implementation (such as supply chain issues, and homebuyer uptake/interest). The learnings will be used to create resources and guides for the residential construction industry and homeowners, outlining voluntary risk reduction initiatives for Canadian homes. The application deadline has been extended! Learn more about this opportunity here, and email your completed application form to sonja.winkelmann@chba.ca by 9 am ET on December 9.

CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence: Entries Due Dec 17!

The deadline for the 2025 CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence entries is December 17th at 6pm ET. Canada’s premier housing awards recognizes the best in renovations, new homes, community development, and residential marketing. There are 2 Net Zero categories: Best Custom or Renovated Net Zero Home, and Best Production Net Zero Home. We’ve had some requests for more categories in future years, which we’ll be able to consider once we reach a critical mass in the existing categories, so get those entries in! In this month’s blog post, we break down four lesser-known benefits that Net Zero Homes have over homes built just to meet building code minimums. These are great benefits to promote to your potential home buyers!

NEW REBATE PROGRAM: To help prepare the industry for future building codes, CHBA has launched a 3-year NRCan funded project called Enabling Tiered Codes – Implementation and Market Preparedness. To support the project objective of building industry competency, CHBA is offering rebates for select Net Zero Training Courses during this project – where indicated below. Rebates are only available to CHBA members who pass the exam.

Our Towards Net Zero Reno Stories Are Coming In – Add Yours!

The CHBA “Towards Net Zero Renos” is an NRCan funded initiative targeting up to 150 homes across Canada to undergo a Net Zero/Ready Renovation or Deep Energy Retrofit by Fall 2025. Check out the work on one of our special projects "1908 to Net-Zero" which is undertaking densification along with its Net Zero targets. Do YOU have a client/project undertaking a major renovation? If so, don’t miss out on this opportunity to offer your client an optimized package towards net zero. We are still accepting projects in all participating municipalities listed here.
